During the ‘Days of India in Germany” celebrations held from May 2012 till March 2013, several
cultural, economic and commercial events were held in Germany to mark the 60th anniversary
of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries
.
 The journey of Indian
Railways (IR), the lifeline of India, which is currently  celebrating 160 years of its
foundation, was showcased during this period by holding exhibtions at various railway
stations in Germany. These events were organized by the Embassy of India in association with
Deutsche Bahn.
There are now plans to hold additional exhibitions as per the schedule given below:

The exhibition attempts to capture the illustrious trajectory on which the Indian Railways has been chugging for the past 160 years across the length and breadth of the country. The exhibition stands document the transformation of Indian Railways from a rudimentary railroad carrying building materials to a modern system that has emerged as the fourth largest railway network in the world, annually ferrying over 7.2 billion passengers! It will also showcase the capabilities of Indian Railways in becoming self sufficient with in-house manufacture of locomotives and carriages, including export of locomotives and carriages to other countries. The exhibition also highlights the role of Indian Railways in national integration, depicts our UNESCO World Heritage sites and also gives a glimpse of the world class luxury tourist trains that IR runs.
