Dr. Syed Basharat A. Shah  

Dr. Syed is an internationally renowned animal production scientist and has the honor to be an Indian origin appointed to the prestigious position of an honorary Judge in the German Judicial System at Regional Courts Bonn, Germany in January 2014.

Born at Bijbehara in Jammu & Kashmir, Dr. Syed possesses an illustrious and outstanding multidisciplinary academic, professional and public affairs career, full of distinctions and recognitions, having studied at six reputed universities globally with 4 graduations, postgraduation, Doctorate and post Doctorate research, besides a large number of international scientific publications, presentations and memberships.

 

Since, his arrival in Germany in the year 1993, he is continually engaged in civic and public services in Germany especially in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, well-known in the administrative, political and civic circles as a publically engaged and dignified citizen of Indian origin.

His civic and public services were recognized by the German cities of Cologne and Aachen in 2006. In recognition of his enduring public services, the city of Cologne (Germany’s 4th biggest city) conferred him a document of recognition for his civic and humanitarian engagements through its Chief Mayor. In the same year the historical city of Aachen, Germany awarded him a document of recognition for his contribution towards environmental protection and public affairs through its Chief Mayor.

Dr. Syed has the honor to be a permanent member of the Intercultural Council of Germany since 2006. He has the honor of being a permanent member of the City Advisory Council on Religions in Cologne and the State Advisory Body on Muslim Affairs in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany since 2006. In 2009, he was conferred the title of “Ambassador for Peace” by the United Nations affiliated organization, Universal Peace Federation Germany.

In 2012 he was awarded the prestigious Membership/Diplomateship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, London, UK, being the only person from the state of Jammu and Kashmir (India) in possession of this distinguished Diplomateship in the veterinary profession.

 

In recognition of his multifaceted social, humanitarian, public, academic and professional engagements and achievements enhancing prestige and popularity of India abroad, he was decorated with the “Glory of India Award (Bharat Jyoti Award)” and “Life Time Achievement Award” by India International Friendship Society in October 2016. At the 17th Indian Veterinary Congress in April 2017, he was awarded the coveted Fellowship of the Indian Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Research (IAAVR) in recognition of his academic achievements and outstanding research contributions in the field of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Dr. Syed was conferred the “Award of Honor” at the 19th Indian Veterinary Congress in February 2019 in recognition of his academic achievements and outstanding research contributions in the field of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. He is also till date the only recipient from the state of Jammu and Kashmir, of the prestigious IAAVR Award conferred to him at the 4th Indian Veterinary Congress and 11th annual conference of the Indian Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Research in 2004 at the University of Indian Veterinary Research, Bareilly, India in Recognition of his Outstanding Profile in Veterinary Profession and Remarkable Contribution in the field of Veterinary Sciences.

 

Apart from working as a dignified honorary Judge in the German Judicial System at the regional courts in Bonn, Germany, Dr. Syed is an internationally recognized scientist in in the field of veterinary and animal sciences with a large number of scientific and commercial publications in the international scientific press, mostly USA, UK and Europe to his credit. Besides having successfully presented his scientific work at different conferences in Australia, USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Austria, Spain, France, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Middle East, Thailand, Singapore, South Africa, China, Pakistan and India, Dr. Syed is the life member of more than twenty international scientific and humanitarian organizations.

 

The distinctions conferred on him by the German administration and society vouch for the testimony of his social, humanitarian and public services rendered by him. He has been legendary in propagating about Indian nation, Indian culture, democratic values and sense of tolerance in the Indian society, at the Universities and conferences in Germany, even in Pakistani and Bangladeshi circles thus supporting India’s causes and concerns in a tangible way.

 

Remarkable about Dr. Syed is his admirable professional and public journey from a remote village of Kashmir to his present global position, setting a self-achieving landmark, despite unfavorable circumstances, coming from an under-privileged and resource less background.

 

Due to his persistent outstanding and exemplary multifaceted social, humanitarian, public and professional engagements and achievements abroad and the corresponding recognition in the German society, Dr. Syed has not only achieved eminence in his own field but distinctly enhanced India’s prestige and popularity in Germany. He has always been at the service of his fellow Indians in Germany.
